A client of mine's Mother's Toshiba lappie, purchased from Dick Smith, developed power problems a month or so after the warranty expired. He initially purchased a replacement power brick from Dick to narrow down the point of failure, turns out it wasn't the brick, and Dick refunded him for it (he'd asked them beforehand). It looks like the power socket on the lappie may have a loose connection.

I was psyching him up to quote the CGA at Dick Smith to get it fixed, but he called the Toshiba helpline on the offchance, and "a very nice Australian chap" said no worries, they'd sort it all out for him.

So, good on Toshiba for going with the spirit of the warranty rather than the letter.

Toshibas seem to have the odd habbit of having "loose" power connectors, had a couple at work with the same issue...

Possibly they were quick to fix it because its a known problem then.
Whatever, the customer was happy with the outcome.
