Hi All,

I got this Laptop (acer 5040)a few months back but have barely used it.

I know I was able to go on line using the wireless connection in from my linksys but I an not able to do it any more.

Dont know what happened but the can not get it to search for wireless networks like it used to. I have tried most of the wireless swithches and can not get it to even search. It just gives me the [no wireless connection found in range. Please make sure the wireless switch on your computer is on.]

If anyone can help me out.

Thanks,

This is just the standard message, and it doesn't mean it is the laptop that is at fault. Could be interference, or your wireless access point has some configurations changed.

Make sure the SSID is visible otherwise you have to manually enter this. Also it happened to me a few weeks back that ALL my wireless devices stopped working around the house, including laptops and Pocket PCs. I've changed the wireless channel in the router and they all started working again. After doing a search I found a new wireless access point around the area (neighbour?) and that was probably causing some interference.

I see you posted something else about Bluetooth in another thread. Is this a Bluetooth or Wi-fi problem? Or both? If both then it certainly points to interference since wi-fi and Bluetooth use the same band and other access points, microwave, cordless phones can cause problems.

You could connect via LAN/ USB and download the latest drivers... I had a similar problem with my PCMCIA wifi card... downloaded th latest drivers & reinstalled... all sorted!

Cheers, Stevo

Hi

Not sure about the Acer 5040 but I had a user with a Acer Travelmate 4070 and it has 2 buttons on the front to disable/enable bluetooth (if installed) and wireless LAN, when pressed green wording appears on the screen saying the state its in.

Even when its disabled WindowsXP shows the wireless network card is still there and enabled so you wouldn't be able to tell from the System Manager whether its working or not.

Worth trying if it has those buttons otherwise please disregard.

Cheers
