Can someone please post a link to a list spanning the model range?
Asus seem to badge all of their laptops with loads of different model numbers and it's hard to find reviews - like which is the best for money, etc.

The reason I'm asking is because I'm looking for one for my little brother, and he doesn't want to spend over 2 grand.

I got mine from Excaliber PC in the US, they have a good run down of the various models.

I got my i5 UX31A for like $1850NZD all up and that was now 6 months ago or so when they were only just becoming available. I would think now the i7 model could be had for similar money. The UX31A is the one with the 1080p IPS panel.

Just don't get one from the first generation - the ones with the metallic keyboards, they have a number of problems fixed in the later ones (I have an older one also).

How long was shipping with them?
I've always been weary with international purchases - warranty etc.

Wikipedia has a comparison between the specs of the main model numbers here:

Assuming you want a 13" unit (rather than 11") with 1080p (1920x1080) resolution you want to look at UX31A and UX32VD models.

I'd go for UX31A personally.

The sub model number part after the dash is more of a mystery, seems to be some regional code plus feature codes, for example the UX31A-4005P vs UX31A-4005V... only difference appears to be Win8 vs Win7

Shipping was quick (Fedex from memory).

Indeed substantial purchases from overseas can be fraught. ASUS, from what I have seen, seem to be pretty good about honouring international warranties (although bad reports exist too).

I was really only suggested their site as I recall it had an excellent demystifying breakdown of what the myriad model numbers meant. Given they have been out a good while now I would try and find a local seller (PBTech has them, for example, although you're paying more than I did six months ago via them).
