Hi There!

Is anyone aware if there is a known exemption on warranty with laptops for headphone jacks? The repair agent has said all headphone issues are user caused physical damage and not covered by warranty.

He said 99% of damage is caused by someone knocking the jack with phones plugged in which breaks them internally.

In 15 years of selling laptops I've never heard of such a thing, anyone else able to weigh in ?

Sounds like pretty shaky ground to me. If that were the case you could argue that the design predicates the possibility of damage.....which makes the device not fit for purpose...

Yup I agree. This was my discussion with them too. 

I'll wait for a formal assessment and then go to bat for the customer affected. 

They were suggesting someone could have left headphones plugged in and walked past the laptop and brushed the headphone plug basically causing undue force, or dropped a book onto it.

Sounds like they have reached judgement before they have even done the inspection = Fail.

I would definitely be seeking evidence if they maintain that conclusion after the inspection.
