Ok, I am in the market for a new lap-top and I have decided I would like to get a Sony one, I have it down to two models, but I am so out of touch with computer specs (basically from the introduction of Centrino). One option is a small but has a 1.33GHZ solo processor, compared to the core duo 2GHZ of the other.

My Question us what is the differences between the two, apart form the obvious, i.e. I understand one has a bigger HD etc… But what is the differnce between the processors etc??

I was thinking of the VGNTX57GNT but for $300 extra the  VGNSZ48GNC  looks attractive. Please Help Me!! VGNTX57GNT:

Me to been looking for a new lappy

One is more powerful and thats the Core™2 Duo Processor better for multimedia etc.

Comes down to what you want but with lappys I think to spend that extra for more grunt and go for 2GB ram at purchase. I was quoted $50.00 for 1 GB that would have cost $150 ++ etc.

Next then is graphics to look at.

Im looking at PB Tech. for Toshiba etc they have very good deals.

Out of these for $300 I would go for VGNSZ48GNC

VGNSZ48GNC
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor
65 nm

T7200 4 MB L2 2 GHz 667 MHz

plus the NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7400 GPU better for some gaming and multimedia.

VGNTX57GNT:

Intel® Core™ Solo Processor U1500 (1.33GHz) (slower note the sole proc.)

Thanks for the reply. I thought that would be the case, but want not sure in regard to the processor, i.e. Centrino chips are rated lower than a straight P4 chip, so didn’t know if I should have trusted the raw number in that regard. Cheers

Yeah I know Intel has so many chips and then there are chips that are not even listed on Intel's site like the:

T2050
Core Duo T2250, a 1.73GHz clocked dual-core CPU with 533MHz FSB

I spent a while going through them and the more specs the higher the price.
