Just out of curiosity, would you pay $1800 for a Compaq Presario 2500 (2004 model) that has 1GB RAM, 64 video memory (borrowing bonus 64mb from ram), 2.6GHZ processor, and recently replaced HardDisc (now 26GB) because the old one has done it's day. Also it is marked (wear and tear) and the right click key on keyboard has gone missing. $1800?

Not at all... 2004, 64MB video, and 26 GB HDD only? I wouldn't pay more than $200 for it, if that much.

For this price you can purchase a brand new laptop, with some decent CPU, memory, video card, large HDD and probably still have about $500 change... Including a one year warranty.

Ripoff of the year. For that money you could get: Athlon X2 4600 (2x2.4Ghz), 2Gb DDR2-800, 250Gb HDD, GeForce 8600GT, Hauppauge PVR-150 and Vista Home Premium and 20" Widescreen!!!

Or a two year warranty if it is ASUS, but you may need to spend a bit of that $500 to get it :)

Sorry, is that $1800 for helping me to pay off my LCD tv? sweet...

Oops, nope.. it's $1800 for very outdated laptop.

Advice: Don't buy it!

Running Windows Vista Ultimate doesn't justify its price. It's an old laptop, it's scrateched, small hard disc, probably slow memory and CPU. Not worth anywhere more than $200.

The Compaq Presario 2500 runs Mobile Pentium. For this price you can get a brand new laptop, with warranty, 100GB hard disk and dual core. Why buy a three years old laptop with old technology if you can buy a brand new one for this price?

Just check Ascent or Pricespy.

I see your guys point. Just had to make sure cause even from my local computer guy, he says it's a good laptop. Just needs new HD. But for the price he reckon don't do it.

I've looked at the auction... Even after all the advice, it will start at $1300... What a rip off!

Buyers beware. I know of many people buying secondhand stuff on Trade Me and paying more than it would cost at Dick Smith. Such is life.
