Toshiba Satellite Overheat Shotdown

Yes i personally [me and my parents] had two toshiba satellite laptops claimed under the Harvey Norman warranty and everything went smoothly.

Longest without a laptop was around 2-3 weeks. Which compared to Dick Smith apparently is nothing. And if they can't fix it they replace it with a brand new laptop and not just a rubbish one too. You see this happened...

I was on my laptop in easter weekend. The 1yr warranty was long gone [got it in october 2k5] and so we [me and mum's laptops] had our laptops on the five year Harvey Norman warranty. So here i was working on my site when the screen starts scolling. I turned off my radio and restrated the laptop. Again five minutes later it starts again. Then i tell mum which she ignored me as she was cleaning. So dad looked at it [being a computer expert but not laptop expert x_X] and as soon as he turned the laptop on, scolling.

So on monday we took it up. At HN we couldn't find a problem [wouldn't you ever] and they didn't charge us. Mum was interested in getting more RAM so the guy even showed us how to install ram :)

So we take it home and on monday night my dad is upgrading the ram on mums one and putting the old ram on my laptop giving mum 1gb and me 512mb without the card taking anything. But dad turns the laptop on to check if the rams installed and yeah it did it but with flashing. So i took it and waited a hour and turned it on again to try and get a backup.. it stays fine for 30 minutes then flashes.

Dad takes it in and it doesn't play up so he restarts it seven times, still nothing so the guy offers to do a stress test and keep it on for a few days and if we don't hear anything it gets repaired. So we never hear a thing and well it must have played up. Two/three weeks later [can't remember] mum and i are shopping, dad rings up mum and tells her that my laptop can't be repaired and Toshiba/HN have replaced it with a newer model of same value when we first got the laptop so mum tricks me into agreeing to have her old one [which im using now] and what do they give her?

A satellite with vista HP, 512mb ram, 1.7ghz processors [Dual core] and other neat things that i would have liked <_< and mum of course got extra ram and such, it can even run aero.

On the night we got the new one i went to reformat mums laptop cause my brother has been looking at .... ahh not so good things online and i just wanted it all GONE. So i reformat, 2 minutes into it and it says "bad sector found, please try again and if it persists then please take it to a toshiba repair guy" or something like that so i show dad the error and he takes it in. Two weeks later i get it back with new HD, factory resettled and they were even nice enough to update windows for me so it was ready from day one.

So if you have to claim under the warranty you should be fine. Heck i would rather pay for a stress test to see if it was normal than anything else.
