I've used HP laptops for a number of years and have also experienced a few OMG moments when performing BIOS updates. One of the things that helped me the most was ensuring I was physically connected to the router when rebooting, for some reason it didn't like being wireless when it was being flashed. Hope that helps!

Go to the HP website on the previous post, choose the version of Windows 7 you have(32 our 64 bit) bios is one of the options to expand and then choose to download the latest version at the top. Once downloaded run the file.
