Hello all,

I have recently purchased a second hand NEC Versa M400 which was beleived to have been formatted. And all i was required to do was install windows xp and off i go. However...when i ateempt to install windows i get as far as loading the setup programs but when i get to 'starting windows' i get the error message:

"Setup did not detect any hard disk drives on your computer.

Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk- related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program."

Now i know there is a hard drive in there as it is recognised on start-up.
Does anyone have any solutions to this? Perhaps purchase a new hard drive?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

             Andy

I recently had the same problem but when I was installing Vista on a new desktop PC.  It turned out my hard disk was faulty.  This is likely to be your problem too.

Hello again,

I have have googled the error message and there seems to be alot of people with my problem however all solutions refer to different hardware to mine. eg: non IDE hard drives. But it seems i need to load some sort of drivers to recognise my hard drive.

This is doing my head in. But thatnks for the help so far.

Does anyone else out there know of a solution?

Andy

I definitely think your hard drive is faulty.  As I mentioned before, my hard drive was faulty and I thought I needed drivers too from my research online.  Then it turned out that I had a faulty hard drive.

Take it into a computer shop and get them to test it for you mate.  It will only take a few minutes.

G'day HW,

Well it seems that you were right. I went and purchased a new 80Gb HD for $110 and it worked instantly.
So thanks for your help mate. I would have probably still been surfing the net for 'mythical' drivers.

Thanks again,

Andy
