Hi – has anybody recently bought any replacement lithium Ion batteries online from overseas and had them arrive without any drama from NZ Post or Customs? I need to replace my iPod battery and on the internet the guidance seems to be that they cannot be sent or they can if the packaging conforms to some standard.

Does anyone know if I’m likely to have them held at customs if I order them from the US or China?

DHL/FedEx will ship batteries however this must be explicitly declared.

Good luck with using NZ Post as they are quite particular with the contents these days

I've been buying my RC batteries (LiPo 7600mA) through Hobbyking from both their China and Australia warehouses.
Haven't encountered any problems.
The packaging clearly indicates that they are batteries.

Ha. A joke surely.....
HKing have had so many lipo shipping issues in the last year its beyond a joke. Perfectly fine if sent via FEDEX of course .And fast delivery .
:-)

But, otherwise its a gamble as many ebay/online sellers just send via normal post/air & if NZPost find its a batt they will confiscate the whole package, not just the batt. Some batts do get through, they cant check everything.
You cant even send lithium batts via NZPost within NZ, and some couriers wont accept them either.

Nope, based on experience.
I've only known there were having issues shipping batteries is because they've stated it on their website to which they said they've also said they've already sorted out.
Bought 4 lipo batteries from them without any problems.  Planning to buy 2 more later.

If I remember correctly they're using Fastway courier for delivery.

Incoming from overseas is fine, as they are shipping it and generally not labelling it as batteries so it comes thru ok, you are doing nothing wrong. If they dont arrive, paypal look after it.

Problem comes if it is stuffed and they want you to send it back. $30ish was the best I could get for legit battery courier to overseas. More than the batteries. That is what those genric laptop battery crook websites rely on when they ship you bung stuff, whereas ebay+paypal or aliexpress take care of it onsite when things are faulty so its in noones interest on there to ship dud stuff.
