Hi I'm looking for a laptop to supplement our desktop computer.  The laptop will be used mainly for internet, excel/word and low level gaming by my 10 year son (Mindcraft and Steam games). I want to redeem my Westpac hotpoints so I'm limited to JBHiFI, Noel Leemings, Harvey Norman and Mighty Ape.  I want a minimum screen size of 15.6".  I'm thinking of getting the Acer Aspire i5 Laptop with 2GB Nvidia for $999.99.

What are the users thoughts given my requirments?  I could afford to pay more if necessary.

Specs:

  • Operating System: Windows 8.1 64 bit
  • Processor: Intel® Core™ i5–4210U processor Dual Core 3M Cache, 1.70Ghz with Turbo Boost up to 2.70 GHz
  • Screen size: 15.6" HD 1366×768 Widescreen LED with super slim design
  • Memory: 8GB DDR3L-1333 Memory (1 x8GB)
  • Hard Disk: 1TB Hard Drive
  • Optical Drive: DVD-Super Multi Drive (Dual Layer)
  • Video Graphics: Nvidia Geforce GT840M 2GB graphics
  • Wireless LAN: Acer Wireless 802.11a/g/n 2×2
  • Bluetooth: Yes
  • Camera: Acer Crystal Eye webcam 1280×720 resolution 720p Hd audio/ video recording
  • Battery: 56 Wh 5000 mAh 11.1 V 6-cell Li-ion battery pack
  • Battery Life: Up to 7 hours (based on MobileMark® 2012 test results))
  • Weight: 2.55kg
  • Dimensions: 381.6 (W) x 256 (D) x 25.3/30.3mm

For the price it does not look to bad.
Sure you might be able to get it cheaper but you are limited to the retailers.

Reviews also look good if its the V3-572G-55FT (mighty ape)
