My mate is in the market for an Ultrabook, he has had Laptops in the past, but wants to try an Ultrabook. His uses/needs/wants are pretty similar to my own.

He has a budget of $1000, but told him he probably needs to be spending more than that to get anything close to what he wants.

- Full HD Screen is a must
- 14" Screen would be preferred, but would settle for less
- Full HDMI port would be cool, but not necessary
- 128GB SSD is preferred, as he downloads quite a few Movies/TV shows

As mentioned above, his uses are pretty similar to my own. He uses his current laptop for Browsing (Multiple tabs open at once), Online Banking, Consuming Media (Spotify, Youtube, FanPass + Movies/TV shows in general). So something that could have a few programs open at once as well as some Internet Tabs, would be ideal

Doesn't really do any gaming, like me he has a PS4.

Told him to look at Lenovo, but those are out of his price range, even though they are special right now at some stores.

I see Mighty Ape has The Asus T300 on special right now. However the micro ports are putting him off as he doesn't own any adapters, doesn't want to carry them with him either.

Thoughts? Maybe save up more and buy a Lenovo?

That Yoga 3 in Noel Leeming would fit the bill.  You won't find many with full size hdmi, it's a very small adapter.

Can keep a look out for a hybrid like the T300, I have a Dell Venue 11 Pro with keyboard dock which is not too bad.  The later 7140 model is much better but quite hard to get hold of.

If your friend is flexible on the full-HD part, I am looking to sell my Samsung Series 9.  It is 1440x900 13", VERY light, 128GB mSATA.  But like @jonb noted, not full-sized HDMI (it has a micro-HDMI).  But the price is better than anything new!

Surface 3 128 is priced close to the Asus today.

128 is nothing for down loaders.

4tb external for $200 special if you wait is the way to go.

Got one of these for my daughter the other weekend.  I hate buying pcs retail, however this is a very robust machine, well spec'd and one of the few laptops that had a SSD drive.  Small, light and portable. Touchscreen and can be used as a tablet as well.  Should see here through to her graduation in 4 years.

http://www.harveynorman.co.nz/computers/laptops/toshiba-satellite-radius-40-c006-laptop.html     I got it on special for $1199.  Come Out of the Box with Win 8.1, so completed making the recovery dics (16GB USB required) process, the upgraded it straight to Win10.  No problems at all, works really well.

A proper full HD ultrabook with 128GB storage is likely to be closer to $2K. $1K is regular laptop territory. I have a work Toshiba Ultrabook that works pretty well, other than the trackpad always getting hit and moving my cursor around the screen.

Lenovo 11" or is the extra $400 worth it for the Lenovo 14". Still the Asus T300 is sticking out though. (It says on MightyApe 128GB storage, but also says 64GB??).

Thanks folks. He isn't a member but told him to come here and check out the replies.
