It is anticipated the new Surface Pro 4 will be announced on October 6th in the USA. (http://www.techradar.com/news/mobile-computing/laptops/surface-pro-4-release-date-price-news-and-features-1285416)

Does Microsoft ship to the retailers then release their hardware upon their announcement or will the market need to then wait until the goods are shipped to the retailers, similar to the Apple iPad release? I will be in the US over the announcement period and are hoping to acquire the new model but that will depend on the delay between announcement and release. Does anyone recall the process with previous releases by MS.

I am really keen on the Surface pro 4 as well.  I will be in Canada next week, so here's hoping that stores there will have some devices!

Usually companies announce products and launch is 3 ~ 4 weeks away. Saying that Microsoft did surprise every with the Band announcement and it was available to purchase the next day at Microsoft Stores.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Have been really impressed with my SP3.
Hope MSFT continue with the firmware updates.

Looking to see what improvements the SP4 has.

For me:

  • 16-32 Gb ram is desired.
  • Bigger screen (14-15 inch).
  • 4G.
  • Longer battery.
  • Faster CPU, mem, SSD blah blah.

Oh also... Cortana. Do want.

Don't think you will get a bigger screen, remember hearing that it would not change due to the dock etc.
Sounds like some people were not to happy buying a dock for SP2 then having to replace it for the SP3.
That also brings the screen to the size of "get a bloody laptop/ultrabook" range :P

Agree with new I5/I7 CPU updates and 16gig ram.

Yep. SP3 is the best tablet I have ever owned bar none.

Trim a bit of weight off it maybe and a new CPU.

The only issue I have is that sometimes it doesn't sleep and goes flat in my bag. Very annoying. Haven't investigated what is keeping it awake though...

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

My general rule over the years has been 90 days for software, 30 days for hardware from announcement time.  So I would expect a GA to be around 10th of November.  I seem to remember there are other releases from Microsoft around that time - perhaps a windows 10 update and some more hardware.

Waiting for a 16GB model. But would be a decision spending money unjustifiably on a iPad Pro or Surface for no apparent reason
