Hi there
I have an Asus laptop that was working fine.  Shut it down today. Tried to restart later on and get a black screen with the message "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key".
If I press a key the message reappears.
In the bios the harddrive doesn't even seem to be detected anymore, only the dvd drive.
I've tried a windows xp setup disc and gone to the recovery console. It immediately gives a message "setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer". Well the hard drive is there as I was using it this morning.

Any ideas what has happened and how to fix it, or has the hard drive just died?
Paul.

Most likely a dead HDD.

Sounds pretty dead to me....

You could try running a HDD utility just to confirm that it is. Or you can get an external enclosure, plug it into another PC and then see if it goes?
