Heya

I purchased my Acer Aspire 5920G last year complete with all bells and whistles but unfortunately also complete with Vista Home - Useless for me.
I've since loaded Vista Business and reloaded all the provided driver files but when loading the BTW (bluetooth) setup.exe application file the software goes through preparing to install then stops and tells me "No Bluetooth Device was detected.  Please make sure that your Bluetooth device is plugged in properly in order to continue installation."
Is it just me or does this laptop not come with bluetooth?

Any help/advise would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Gems

Make sure the Bluetooth is turned on. On my Acer Ferrari it's a switch in th front.

Also note that some Acer laptops are "Bluetooth ready" but have no Bluetooth hardware at all...

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Hi

Thanks for the advice.  No buttons or switches I'm afraid.  Just the shiny black square of smooth plastic in the front near the earphone jacks that made me assume that it came with Bluetooth hardware.  I'll try plugging in the Belkin USB tonight and loading the drivers and see what it does.

It might be worth checking the acer website. I think my acer at home uses an acer application to control the bluetooth operation.

The website also has the specs for each model within the 5920g range.

http://www.acer.co.nz/Acer/akc/homenotebook.nsf/Page/RWP07526C637A6E9045CA2573640002E2AC?open&current=7.4&ms=expand&

Also I don't know if the hardware is controlled in the BIOS. My last acer advertised IR but no IR was detected. I found it had been swithced off in the BIOS one day when i was exploring around. Once it was switched oin in the BIOS XP recognised it straight away. It might be the same for the Bluetooth.

How are you finding the acer. I just got one at christmas. I am a bit concerned at all the acer application that just seem to do the same as the vista ones but just use memory (running at 44% of 2MB when standing still!)

Try <windows key> + "X" to bring up the Windows Mobility Centre (or start it from the Control Panel).

On that screen you should see the status of the Bluetooth module towards the bottom of the screen.
