Hi guys,

I recently bought a WD 1 TB hard drive, and after transfering all my photos and videos to it, it is now not recognized in windows 8.1.

So it worked for about 10 minutes.

Now all my important files are on there.

When I connect it, windows doesn't recognize it yet it shows up in hardware.

Took it to the shop, it is a power feeding failure so they say and all my files would be lost.

How can I get my files of there, and hopefully uncorrupted ?

I used Recuva software to get the deleted files of my laptop but only that was good for a bout %70 percent of the files. The files that were corrupted I used stellar phoenix JPEG recovery but that didn't repair any corrupt images or movies.

Do I need to take it to a data recovery lab and hope for the best ?

I am at the end of my tether now and don't know what to do.

Please someone help ?

Cheers

Ken

If that is your only copy of the files then yes, a data recovery place would be your best bet.

If the files are not _that_ important then you might get suggestions of pulling the drive out of the case and stuff, but for the few $100 that it costs generally at the places that are pros at it, I think that is better than risking DIY things.

Dont run any software on it that claims to fix it unless you know what the risks are.

Data recovery specialist. Do not try anything else if you value your data.

Something like VirtualDub might be a good start.
