Hi all

I have a PC for my photography but got a ex lease laptop for day to day stuff, wired to the HDTV etc .. with the family. Surfing the web, showing them info etc.

It is SATA II. Samsung is suggested, more expensive but how are the others like Crucial, Sandisk and OCZ. I don't have SATA III and it is a 2011 model. What about the RAM, DDR3 SODIMM 8GB sticks (2 slots). From history obviously if you wait too long they get too expensive but at what price do you think it a sweetspot or it has fallen as much as possible. It's not urgent, but would like to get it eventually so prolong the life of this laptop.

sata 2 is fine for a SSD, I threw one in my old laptop along with an extra 2gb of ram (can only take 4gb total) and pit windows 7 on it with the intention of going to windows 10. My SSD was a Sandisk one.

Even a cheapie SanDisk SSD will be fine. We have a new Mac Mini and were foolish to buy a model with only a normal hard drive. A Sandisk SSD in a USB3 enclosure makes the thing noticeably faster.

By the time I think of upgrading, RAM always costs me more... I'd suggest doing the upgrades now rather than later.

Ddr3 is not going to get any cheaper. Buy it now.

Thanks, yes if I compare the reputable stores DDR3 is cheaper than DDR4. Picked up a pair of 8GB for $110. Will get a SSD too.
