It's upgrade time at the office. Historically, I have purchased Surface Pro 3 and 4.

The SP3's have been ok, but our SP4's have proved too buggy - dock issues, freezing, endless reboots.

Needs to meet the following:

  • Reliability, reliability, reliability!
  • i7 or similar
  • Portability (preferably at least similar footprint and weight to SP4).
  • Happy with traditional laptop as well as kick-stand tablet - so don't necessary discount laptops
  • Touchscreen

Needs a reliable dock option to seamlessly drive with dual screens.

Let the bids roll in, cheers.

All Skylake systems had similar problems. Microsoft has done a significant amount of work with Intel to improve the quality of drivers and firmware in Skylake SOC systems and that work is now available to all OEMs using Skylake.

I'd suggest you take another look at SP4 with the latest updates. Windows 10, v1607 we are seeing 20% better battery life on SP4.

Or buy a Haswell or Broadwell system.

Thanks Nathan. We are a little gun-shy of the SP4 at the moment given our recent history, so have opted this time for a Toshiba Z30T - with Intel Core i7-6600U, which I think is Skylake as well.

Over the coming months, we'll compare performance of the Toshiba alongside our existing SP4s.
