The cpu fan on our HP pavilion DV6 has failed. Are there generics, or am i going to have to track down a specific part?

Not generic.

I'm a geek, a gamer, a dad, a Quic user, and an IT Professional. I have a full rack home lab, size 15 feet, an epic beard and Asperger's. You need to identify the specific model of DV6, find it's maintenance guide, find the part number, acquire the part.

It can be a bit of a pain, for example http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01744837.pdf is for one type of DV6, I suspect there are others. For that Manual, there are two types of fan assembly depending on if your graphics card has shared or discrete RAM.
