I know I should have opted for Apple Care but after having over 50 apple products in 20 years, I have never once had an issue.  This macbook air is 14months old and has the "X" in the battery, have tried all the usual resets with no luck.  I'm just outside the apple warranty but 14 months seems quite poor.  Would I be wasting my time pursing a fix?  Bought new from HarveyNormans.  Cheers

yes 100% sure you have a case, CGA will be on your side 2 months out of warranty is nothing

I would say just try your luck with Harvey Norman first, and if they don't help you out, mention the CGA to them.

 

For a premium laptop, I would expect at least 48-60 months "reasonable lifetime" or whatever it is that the CGA stipulates.

I thought they had a two year warranty? or is that only iPhones?

 

But yep, CGA is on your side here (though, batteries can be iffy as they are sometimes considered a 'consumable' - I know, they aren't removable in a MacBook).

I would just call apple directly. they usually will help.

I've had good experience with Apple. I had a 3-year-old 4S which an update bricked. They replaced it.

A follow up.  HarveyN said to bring it in and they'll send it off to Apple, that it will still be repaired under warranty.  Cool.

If it was bought in NZ then Apple automatically apply the CGA for the 2nd year so you'll have no issues getting it repaired by Apple at no cost.

 

Unless there is some accidental damage to the device that has caused the issue.
