Firstly - my apologies if I am putting this in the wrong section.

I'm probably going to have to replace my current tablet soon and I need help with what to replace it with. I've done some quick research and it seems like iPads are considered the best tablets but I play a few games on my current tablet and of course they were downloaded on the Play Store so if I get an iPad I assume I won't be able to play those games. They were free so that's not an issue but I don't want to have to start from scratch. From what I looked at the best android tablet is a Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 but that's pretty pricey and I wonder if it's more than what I need. I'm happy with the specs on my Note so I don't really need to go higher than that. I do like the screen on my Note and I like the size. I'm not too bothered about sound as I usually have it on silent and if I watch a video I will Chromecast it if I can. The only thing I really dislike about my tablet is the built in apps that I can't delete and can't move to my SD card.

That's a tough one. There is a 10" Tab A around $400. 2016. Wikipedia says it upgrades to 7. There is an s-pen model adds $200 or so.

Thanks. My Note has a s-pen which I never use so the $400 one would be fine.

Id consider the Lenovo 10 plus if you can get it down around $500. $600 rrp its a bit rich given the iPad 2017 is about $479.

But for me the 2017 iPad is the best value, if you can stomach iOS. Definitely the best processor and a retina screen.

If you look on trademe often you can find the 9.7" iPad Pro for about $500 with 6 months or so warranty left. Thats the same tech in the new gen iPad Pro minus the variable 120hz refresh.

I think its worth it to switch to apple for the sake of a few games.

About the only Apple products I can personally recommend now days.

I use an iPad at work so I'm okay with using one but my games are the main thing I use my tablet for at home and they're the sort where you build up over time so it's hard to stomach starting from scratch. Then again I could quit playing them and do something more productive with my time Lol!

Thanks. I've looked at that one and also the Lenovo 10 Plus. I really like the look of both.

My current Samsung keeps freezing and sometimes crashing. The battery life is also pretty poor. It hadn't done it since I started this post over a week ago but then did it again last night. I'm trying to hang on to it as long as I can as it's not too bad at the moment. I'm waiting to see what dies first - my phone or my tablet.

Freezing and crashing is sometimes just a bad app or service. It might be worth removing any apps you don't use anymore and resetting the tablet, then getting any system updates, then installing only the apps you need one at a time as you need them. It all takes a while. I tend to leave half a day for completing something like that.

Battery life is sometimes impacted by a bad app or service issue.

All this can be a bit of a time waster compared to an easy replacement..

Thanks Gzt. I'll look in to that. I think I only have one app that I don't use. Sadly they updated it and it no longer works on my tablet.

The battery on my tablet wouldn't last a day of fairly light usage even with a full charge. So I took it into the Samsung repair centre on the North Shore... they kept it for about a week and told me that there was nothing wrong with the device or the battery. They couldn't explain why the battery couldn't last and offered no further information. I left there determined NOT to purchase another Samsung product.

However, I've since replaced my Samsung phone with another later Samsung phone, so Samsung are probably still laughing at my 'determination'.

My tablet battery wouldn't last a day either. I only use it at home so it's not too much of an issue. I have a Huawei phone and when that dies I'll replace it with a Moto G5. I'm not too brand loyal.

Probably worth doing a full device reset. Backup anything important first though.

You need to do that when you hand over any device to Samsung.

Huawei announced the Mediapad M5 at MWC this year - in both 8" and 10". I t looks great - thin bezels and only 7mm thick. The 10" has four speakers and, best of all for me, a 16:10 aspect ratio which is great for watching movies. There is also a Pro version with a pen. I'm thinking this will replace my ageing Sony Xperia tablet when it releases later this year.

If this one lasts that long I'll check it out. I've been reasonably happy with my Huawei phone but miss the camera from my old Moto G3. Huawei is definitely a brand I'm not adverse to though.
