Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has recently bought any laptops from the US (i.e. Amazon or even direct Apple store)? We have previously purchased a couple small household items (all under NZ$50) and have them shipped via a third party shipper. I'm looking at getting a Macbook Pro or Acer Predator 15 laptop, which seems to be way more expensive here than back in the US. Can anyone kindly share their experience in regard to duties and shipping cost? If say the total cost of the laptop is NZD$1600, how much will I be looking at paying the GST and/or import cost? This will be for personal use as I'm looking to replace my machine.

Thank you so much in advance.

Thanks! so I'll need to fill out the NZCS 224 form then? Sorry for the questions just not familiar with how this is done. How long will it take for the client code to be issued?

You buy online. Some retailers may or may not charge GST and the customs fees - Amazon does and if the fee is more they will pay, if less they will refund.

If you buy and the retailers doesn't charge GST then you will receive a letter advising you need to contact Customs to arrange payment, etc.

I'm not sure whether this is still the case, but previously there have been issues with Wi-Fi due to different frequency bands. I think Apple gear might auto-adjust for the country you're in, but I'm not sure. Can anyone else confirm?

This can still happen. Some can be changed as a device setting, some not.
