I don't usually worry about this when buying a laptop for someone as I've always bought from Dell.
But the last purchase was a disaster. The requirements are pretty simple. A separate number pad which can run typical office tasks and isn't too much of a behemoth to carry around. Obviously it needs to be SSD and preferably 16GB RAM, but 8GB would probably do. It wont game or play movies but is likely to have loads of windows open at the same time.
I thought I'd bought all that when getting an Inspiron 5570 two months ago, but the screen was horrendous. I only used it for 10 minutes and had to lie down with the kind of migraine I used to get requiring some serious drugs as a teenager. My colleague lasted for 20 minutes but he had the same problem.
Dell replaced the screen but it was no different. They sent a new laptop, but it was no different so they refunded it.
It turns out the Inspiron 5000's are all being shipped with TN panels now, leaving the IPS's to the 7000 which adds another $1000 on to the price.
So what can I get that isn't a Dell for around $1500 that has an IPS panel ?
Ive never bought from anywhere else so wouldn't know where to start looking other than TradeMe but I want a proper warranty and support for this on.
