It must be Xmas because are releasing things I want!  I have convinced myself I need one.  The main benefit I am seeking is a real desktop web browser and sadly that means not Android.  A keyboard would be handy as well for banging out the odd e-mail or GZ post when out of the house.  I have decided on the Go rather than the Pro because it's more portable, has USB C and importantly is cheaper.  If the price was the same I would get the Pro and deal with the increased size for the better battery life and processing power.

Given that this is a portable device (2/3 tablet, 1/3 laptop as opposed to the Pro which is 1/3 tablet, 2/3 laptop) getting one with LET makes a lot of sense.

These two listings are up on the PB Tech web site.  No discounts as yet but at least they are about to be released:

Go LTE, 8\128GB

Go LET, 8\256GB

I would be interested in opinions from current Go owners if they are happy with their devices.  We have a Pro and a Surface Laptop in the house so I am fairly familiar with the product line.  A key question is are you happy with the processing power and the battery life as those are the weak points on the Go.

Clearly I'm biased, but I bought a Surface Go 8/128 LTE with my own money last year.
Perfrrmance and battery life is fine with the Intel Gold CPU, clearly it's not a powerhouse, but you already identified that, as it's more of a tablet.

I'm running v1903 on mine.

The 8/256 is a commercial SKU so will be quite a bit more $

Long term report is as follows:

  • Happy with the size, the Surface Pro 5 and Surface Laptop in the house feel huge to me and I can do everything I want.
  • Happy with the speed.  It doesn't feel sluggish for what I do and benchmarks said it was no worse than my old core duo i5
  • Loving the LTE and general portability
  • Battery life sucks.  I did know this before I brought it and it charges fast.  Battery life is 4 hours which really means 3 as you don't run it down to zero.  You can charge it from a USB power bank and I have chargers at home, work and in the car.  Battery life on Surface Pro 6 is 6 hours which really means 5.  In a practical sense thats not quite twice the Go (5 vs 3) but the Pro still doesn't have all day battery life.  I am blaming Intel for their power hungry chips not Microsoft for their bloated OS.
  • Built in LTE rocks.

Overall I am happy.  Recommend getting the LTE if you do go with a Go.  I call it my Surface GoPro...

Anyone else running a Surface Go LTE?

How do you find the LTE?

Anyone know what bands it supports?

With tethering to a mobile being so easy, what is the advantage of paying extra for LTE?

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

The advantage of the built in LTE is that you always have internet as soon as you turn it on.  With running a hotspot on your phone, you get to cafe, get out laptop, turn on hotspot, wonder why it hasn't connected yet, check phone and laptop settings by which time it's normally connected.  It's only a delay of a min or so no big deal if you are using it for an hour but if all you want to do is send one e-mail then you could have done the whole thing on your phone by the time it connects.

The disadvantage is that you can't use the 2 degrees data clock app so for big downloads I turn off the lte and hotspot from the phone with data clock running.

As far as I can tell it supports all the NZ 4g bands:

4G LTE Advanced (22 Bands: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 19, 20, 25, 26, 28, 29, 30, 38, 39, 40, 41, 66)

Not sure what it does in the country where 2 degrees uses the vodafone 3g network but it must do something as it still works.

I am still loving mine.  It's not too slow, not to small and I can live with the battery life.  They say it's much better if you avoid chrome but the touch scrolling on FF is janky and I havent gotten around to trying to convert to edge yet.  The touch scrolling on Chrome beta was much better than on normal Chrome although that might have changed by now.

It's a great device, highly recommended.
