My dearly beloved is struggling with her new HP laptop's  trackpad and has asked, nay, demanded something be done.

My question for GZ is: is there some kind of multi-surface capable mouse out there that :

-will cope with use on bed/couch style surfaces as well as desks etc.

-wireless yet runs pretty much forever on a near-perpetual internal power source so that she won't continously be let down by dead batteries

-is small enough to fit in her already full bag yet big enough to fit the hand of a (admittedly smallish) adult

Thanks.

Almost any modern wireless mouse will meet your criteria. You'll need to turn it off before carrying in a bag otherwise the constant movement will keep it on and run the battery down

Logitech M570. I got one for my wife, she really likes it. It's a trackball type thing, won't go in a purse, but great for sofa, random tables, etc.

It would avoid the problem of different surfaces but it's quite left field - she's never used one before. Neither have I and I'm going to be the likely end user if she can't abide the thing :-)

Still, it doesn't cost a fortune.

most wireless mice will work on many different surfaces, maybe not glass but desks and bed/furniture.

My logitech g900 seems to cope well with many surfaces, and charges and runs off USB so if its flat just plug it in and away you go. Best mouse I have ever had.

Any kind of polished / shiny furniture has problems. Unless richms has some new tech?

My Logitech MX Master 2S works pretty much everywhere. Rechargeable via USB works with Bluetooth or Logitech nano dongle. Very comfortable.

Looks like a good mouse but if it's like this one, it's err, above the price bracket I was expecting to be in.

Yeah thats the improved version of it.

I have no problems spending on input hardware. Im working with it all day every day and junk stuff is just fatiguing to use.

I understand and agree. This mouse would be for someone who often needs a 2nd phone to call and find her other phone.

I could see this thing being left behind somewhere.

A wired mouse has its' benefits.....

How about a bog standard Microsoft wireless mouse (1850) from PB Tech? They're cheap ($17), and if your wants a colored (black, blue, red, pink, purple) mouse, she can choose a color?

I think that's a good starting point and a brighter colour is more likely to be spotted.

I'll see how it copes and if it's no good, go up the market from there.

At home , Ive been using trackballs for years . Initially takes a bit to used to : thumbing, but I'd never go back to a mouse on the home PC .
I can use it on the sofa , on cushions etc.

Otherwise, if you have a hard surface that an optical mouse struggles with, a sheet of A4 paper is all thats needed to get around that issue .
