I'm shopping for a business laptop for my wife, and need to pick a docking solution. Whats your favorite dock type?

Many laptop manufactures seem to be going for thunderbolt docks only, so this seems to be the way of the future.

On the other hand, my dealings with USB 3 and Thunderbolt docks have left me a bit disappointing.

I have a dell E-port dock for my personal computer, and it (other than being a pain to line up to dock) has worked constantly well. Recently was issued a new workstation laptop at work with the dell TB16 dock. Every time I boot or re-dock, there is a 50% chance my dual monitors will swap order. Typing seemed a bit laggy, so now My keyboard & mouse are plugged directly to the laptop. Cube is bulky, and cable is stiff requiring a lot of desk space, and plug (dual thunderbolt to deliver enough power for the workstation laptop) is bulky and seems like it would easy overload the sockets on the laptop and break it if force was put on it.

Many thunderbolt docks seem to have bad reviews online.

HP seems to be one of the few brands keeping going with conventional docks, so options will be limited if I want to stick with one of these.
