I have a Thinkpad USB 3.0 Pro Dock that connects to a laptop using a USB Type A to Type B cable - similar to what you'd use for a printer. The dock accepts the Type B connector.

Anyway the cable is thick and unwieldy (doesnt bend) so I purchased a Type-C to Type B cable to replace it. Similar to this one;

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cable-Matters-Type-C-USB-C-Black/dp/B00UXKTJE0

However with this cable plugged in I dont get any action on the laptop ie it does not recognise the dock. Theres no chime or anything, just nothing.

I was under the assumption that this should work since Type-C and USB 3 (Type A) are technically the same when it comes to comms.

The link to the product above suggests the same as well.

Am I just out of luck here or is there a slim chance the cable is defective?

Edit: Also tried the cable with my Dell monitor which has a USB hub that connects via USB Type B and same deal, no action.

According to the Displaylink website I can use a C-A adaptor, so I guess I'll track on of them down.
