Heya..

We're going to Thailand for our honeymoon in Jan 2009 and figured one of the new 'mini' laptops would be ideal for travelling around Thailand (especially as we'll have access to wi-fi).

Interested in recommendations on which mini laptop to get... The Eeeeeeee PC by Asus, or the new mini laptop from Dell?
I believe MSI have released one also called 'Wind' (Sounds like great uncle arthur after a sunday roast!) ;)

Looking for speed, screen size and exapnability mainly...

I haven't played with the Dell yet. But I don't like the Eee PC - screen too small, keys too little, looks like a toy, flimsy wireless.

I have a HP Mini-note here and the battery life is horrible. With WiFi on I can barely use it for longer than 60 minutes before getting the low battery warning.

Judging from my parents who got back from Thailand on the weekend, electronics aren't any cheaper over there anymore. You're probably better off getting something in NZ, that way you've got warranty peace of mind too.

Oops, just re-read your post and you're not asking about buying in Thailand....might not delete my answer though because it's still valid :)

Owned an EEE 701 and setup an EEE 900 for family working in Vietnam. Both were great.

If you need screen size, steer clear of 701.

Found WiFi to be faultless on both.

Keyboard is very small. It was annoying but usable.

I find it hard to use netbooks in my lap, at a table they become 5x more usable.

I've been looking at the EEE 901 (Atom processor). The Acer looks ok, not sure about the dell, if it's Atom I'll probably look harder. That was one reason why I didn't persue an HP Mini-note the bettery life onthe celeron processor looked a little short for me.

I've also used an Eee PC and I find the keyboard way too small to use.

I've got a HP Mini-note and I mainly use it with my Vodafone data card. Barely use it on WiFi so I'm not sure about the battery life, but one concern I have is it does get very, very warm while it's going. Other than that I have no complaints.

LOL Good last point there. ;) I've heard rumour the price will drop dramatically for these PC's later this year.. so may just wait 'til then (or not bother at all). Small keys alert me (as I have stumpy fingers) ;) My cousin has one of the early EEepc's so will have a play with that.. Else I'll just save the dosh and we'll spend it on something better (perhaps trinkets in Thailand!) :)
