Dear geekz,
Bro in law has a dell 640m which had a ram upgrade and vista installed about 2 months ago.

Core Duo 1.8/ 1g+ .5g ram/60G HD

Last few days it's had BSOD - something about memory ... and so i swapped old ram back to make it .5g + .5g and now it will not boot. the bios LED flashing codes it to be "no SODIMM" - the thing is, putting all sorts of "working ram" from other laptops does not make it work.

diagnosis? motherboard gone?

google seems to think if i "cleaned" my ram slots it might cure it ... any suggestions on what material to use to "clean" the metal contacts?

Prior to doing that I suggest spraying some compressed air on the slot, from a decent distance away.  also clean the connectors on the RAM itself with a static proof cloth. 

If it comes to the point where you need to use some liquid I'm pretty sure isopropil alcohol will be the only thing you can use...someone may need to correct me on that though.
