So.... Not quite sure what is going on here. The rumour mill is pretty quiet.

The latest news on the Surface Book 3 comes from a 3DMark leak:

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Microsoft-Surface-Book-3-appears-on-3DMark-powered-by-an-Intel-Core-i7-1065G7-and-NVIDIA-Max-Q-GPUs.452475.0.html

The word on the street seems to be that there will be Microsoft announcement sometime this year:

https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/surface-book-3-news-rumors-specs-release-date-price/

It appears that our own Bill Bennett has a review unit and it will be for sale tomorrow at JB Hifi:

I would have thought there would be some kind of event particularly with the Duo and Neo due this year.

We wait with bated breath! The Surface Book 2 is a great laptop. I love mine...

99.99% that Bill has Surface Book 2 or Surface Laptop 3 confused with Surface Book 3. There is no way that Microsoft will release Surface Book 3 without a major announcement.

Do whatever you want to do man.

That was my thought but he seems pretty sure. I'll ask again...

Stand down everyone. The naming is confusing...

Well. It happened!

Surface Book 3 has been released (along with Surface Go 2, earbuds and Surface Headphones 2).

I would call it an incremental upgrade. Nothing external appears to have changed however the internals have received a boost.

Excited. Only worry is that my application might not like such a high res. Any way to find out without having to test it in a machine?

Which model are you getting Matt?

Would you not get it from Microsoft?

I have the base Surface Book 2 with i5 which I bought at the start of 2018. It has been a great laptop.

I would like to go 13.5" I7. Waiting to see what PB Tech do (which will probably be the same as Microsoft) or maybe wait to see Noel Leeming have a sale... They have discounted Microsoft in the past....

Not sure I can justify it at the moment... My main employer is not exactly in the best shape... sad face.

Cool, surely a discount will still be some months away right? I can't see Microsoft allowing NL to discount a brand new product so quickly. I hope I'm wrong.

Noel Leeming quite often have 20% off the big brands. I too would be surprised if it's included but as they say these are strange times!

To be fair compared to what apple have done for 11 years with the MB (I hate how they use the work Pro) 13, this is a major update. But I do agree, however if its not broken, dont re invent it if its already awesome, just make it even MORE awesome, which IS what they have done. But it depends what you use a notebook for, this is not a notebook, its a designers professional tool, which is what Macbooks USE to be, but just stubbornly (like the 1 click mouse) refuse to update what is now a $3800 notebook with no dGPU and a far less powerful configuration, thats not even mentioning the design side of things.

I too have had the i5 SB2 since 18. Its been the best design device I have ever used, let alone what it can do as a Notebook for everything from spreadsheets to watching netflix on an AWESOME screen.

Id be happy with the i5 version myself. However if the RAM is onboard, then Id go for the i7 model. Blazing fast. I just dont know if my photography work and UX design is worthy of such an upgrade.

Netflix has Surface devices where you use to see apple devices and Im seeing this on other Networks too. Clearly in the states people have recognsed the power of Surface. I feel with apples phone sales dropping, the company could be nearing its last demise without Steve who could manipulate words to make it sound like Apple invented something when they just made it look sexier. I feel MS is doing a great design work with surface but also making the machines real world more powerful. Good to see.

I dont understand what the deal is with Surface Go, when the Surface Pro is fairly similar. Sorry if a naive question, I just dont get its "use case" for existence?

You are right. The Surface book is the best laptop hands down that I have ever used. After two years it hasn't missed a beat.

Hard to justify the upgrade with the current machine still going so well.

My 15" 1660ti SB3 arrived today.  It's super slick, even compared to the SB2 I was using.  Seems to be much more comfortable with powering multiple monitors than my 2 was too.
