No issue with the cable.

Here is what I tried so far:

Plug it in.

Hold power and refresh (looks like recycle symbol) for ten seconds.

Nothing.

Repeat above. Still no power light.

Unplug power cord from chromebook then at power point.

Plug in cable at power point then into chromebook.

At this point power light comes on red then white then chromebook screen flicks on quickly, shuts off and again shows no power light.

Attempt to start it. Nothing. Repeat above steps with power/refresh and plug but this time leave the chromebook to charge for minimum one hour. (Left it at this stage, haven’t been back to where it is since).

If leaving it to recharge doesn’t work, any other key combinations or ideas other than taking it apart to discharge the battery?

Thanks!

Hi, I have seen this quite a bit in the past when I was doing a bit of school IT, pulling the battery from the board should sort it.

In general, with notebooks

no power no lights : usually means either a dead power supply or a dead motherboard

HP Chromebooks have a bit of a rep for this behaviour, appear totally dead, but a full power down by removing the battery seems to unlatch the soft power switching circuit.

Thanks, I was hoping to avoid taking it apart to discharge the battery but I will do as a final step if need be. I do think that will fix it as when it very briefly turns on it looks like the 'broken OS' screen. The battery is too young to be dead. I just thought maybe someone had some other options first.

Acers for example have the following, I've never needed past step 2 for them under the same circumstances:

Does it seem power is broken ie no lights, no screen?

  1. Press power and mute for 20 seconds. Is power light on?
  2. Press win key, backspace, power
  3. Press win, b, power
  4. Press win, v, power

I won’t have access to it now until next week.

Update: Turned it on and it seemed still unresponsive so repeated the whole process of power/refresh/unplug etc and suddenly it decided to cooperate by giving me a steady power light and beginning to recharge.
