I'm looking at purchasing bulk tablets for use at business powerpoint presentations (to replace hardcopy paper handouts).

These tablets will be solely used for Powerpoint presentations, no other use required.

iPad or Android?

Licencing - is there a legitimate free version of MS Powerpoint, or alternative app that will present Powerpoint, or will I need to purchase a licence for each tablet?

Any thoughts or experience from someone who has done similar appreciated.

For either platform the Microsoft PowerPoint app is free.

Pretty sure the latest version of powerpoint lets you live share your presentation via a link. I'd put the link up and let people connect using their own devices if they have them. I think Keynote has similar functionality too.

Yep looks like powerpoint does have that.  Learn something new everyday.

They could be restricted to not editing anything on IOS thou,

Technically the new iPad (10.2) is not eligible for the free version of PPT or office because it violates the 10.1 inch rule, but I am not sure if MSFT are enforcing this...

"To create or edit documents, sign in with a free Microsoft account on devices with a screen size smaller than 10.1 inches.
Unlock the full Microsoft Office experience with a qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription for your phone, tablet, PC, and Mac.
