Hey,

I have a Toshiba A100-PSAA8A laptop.  Lately the backlight will randomly start to flicker and then turn off.  If I open and close the laptop it will come back on again.  When the backlight is off I can still see the image on the screen so it is definatly a backlight issue.

I took the laptop to a repair place who quoted me $600 to fix it, saying they would need to replace the whole LCD.  From what I've read this is not right.  Only the backlight and/or the power inverter.  Does anyone have any experience with this or know any shops who actually know how to repair this sort of thing?  Unfortunatly the laptop is out of warranty.

Thanks,
Daniel

The backlight is often intergrated into the LCD panel, and so whole panel gets replaced.

Tha cheapest solution is the convert to desktop; i.e. buy an external monitor and plug it in.
