The microphone in my Dell XPS i5 9560, Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, isn't working properly - when I dictate to it, it writes words completely unlike what I've just said.  I've tried EVERYTHING, including re-installing and updating drivers,  but no luck.
Any help appreciated.

What does the other person tell you it sounds like when you make a call using the mic?

On the rare occason I've used dictation, a laptop's built in microphone or the mic in my webcam are far less accurate than a headset mic.  Perhaps a lot less background noise etc because its closer to my face.

Headset.

As discovered trying to give support to users for a number of months wfh now, the array mics on laptop's are limited at best

And if you have a headphone/mic. Get the dell maxxaudio waves app where you can pic and choose what you plugged in. Or it wont ask and will still use the onboard
