I'm having issues with my laptop, it won't get an IP lease from DHCP properly, even setting an IP manually doesn't solve the issue.

It's a weird issue as if I use a USB network card, that works fine. The issue occurs not only on my laptop, but also when I plug into both my docking stations.

I've loaded on the new BIOS as per the HP forums I found, this worked until I rebooted when the issue returned.

What else can I try? Laptop is still covered by warranty, just wanted to see if I could fix it myself

I have the same problem and have experienced it while trying to reimage several 6930p's. Sometimes the nic stays working, sometimes it doesn't. I've tried downloading the latest driver. Now I'm trying to uninstall some MS updates to see if something weird happened there. Please post if you have any further ideas. FYI - I have Windows XP loaded. Thanks! -Kevin

We just got these models in and the PC's run a WinXP image.
I had problems with the Wireless at first, but this resolved when I right clicked on the wireless adapter in the taskbar and chose "Repair"

However now, after I use the computer on the network for a while ~ 1/2 hour or so, it drops the signal from Wi-fi or hard wire. Then it will not access the internet or network even thought showing a signal.

When I restart it works again for a while.

Any ideas?

Nate, whats doing DHCP at your place? - I am finding the DHCP could be better on the Epygi Quadro
Sometimes mine change DNS server back to itself and other times, it stops giving out addresses to my wireless devices connecting to our access point

It does the same thing whether at home or at work. DHCP at work is Windows Server 2003, at home is a Draytek ADSL router.

We recently deployed 15 Elitebook 6930p notebooks, all with WinXP Pro imaged. One user has this same issue: his wired ethernet link functions normally at bootup but mysteriously disconnects after a period of time. Wet also set the WLAN/LAN switch setting in the bios, which automatically disables WiFi if the laptop detects an ethernet cable (either in the unit it self or via dock.) What's most intriguing about our issue is that his WLAN activates when the problem manifests, as if the network cable was removed. We tried a different, brand-new dock but the problem persists. We've tried updating the bios, but no dice...

I still haven't found a definite solution, but I will say this. I removed MS updates 950974, 951698, 956803, 950762, and 938464. I then let the PC redownload them install at the next shutdown. Now the nic works. I don't know too much about this kind of stuff, but I had installed SP3 and then when those updates listed above were installed the first time around the nic stopped working.

Exact same issue here with XP Pro SP3 on an FL494AW.

Wifi drops off the planet after about 30min connection time. Sometimes disable/enable or repair gets it back up again, sometimes a reboot is needed. Incredibly frustrating.

Any update from anyone?

I dont have an elite book but I get the disconnect issue on my HP Pavilion 9612TX have had it since the day I bought it. I have tried vista and Windows 7 and the problem is still there. I am convinced it is a wireless card fault (Intel 4965AGN).

the 30 minutes before loss of connection is consistant with me but only if downloading data or streaming. I can stream to a media center extender via wireless as the dat thruput is to high and it cans out some if downloaidng a file from the net.

God damn frustrating so I move back to ethernet for the big stuff.

Right.... fingers and toes crossed... but for the moment I have success.

My laptop has the Intel 5300 AGN card in it so I installed the latest Proset drivers and utility from Intel and I've been online without need for reconnect for ages now.

Will keep you uptodate of any issues, but hopefully there won't be!

Great idea and it worked for until I rebooted.

Looks like I will have to take my laptop in for warranty repair.

Hello, I'm just reporting in. The issues that were fixed by removing the windows updates (per a post above) and allowing them to reinstall seem to have fixed the issue as far as the wired NIC is concerned. I haven't had any other issues or any issues with wireless, so I don't think that is related.

I got this error:

The netcard driver failed the query for OID_GEN_LINK_SPEED.

I beleive it is an overheating problem because I managed to let more air flow under my laptop, which is a lot less hot by the way now. Since then I havent had any connection issues (crossing my fingers).

When I got disconnected, I would reboot and everything would work fine (the card probably had time to cool down a bit).

Do you guys get the "Connection tray does not respond" window when you reboot?

I will probably buy a usb NIC to solve the matter. Does that make sense? Which USB card is really worth it?

I think I've gotten to the bottom of this issue.

I ran Windows Update to update some other software on my laptop, and there was an update available for my network card - I've installed that, rebooted a couple of times and my network card now seems to work fine.

Finally.

Hmmm is it possible for you to write the name of the update or some info on where to get it as I probably have the same problem with the card :(
