Hi - my sons laptop has a broken “Z” key - I have no experience in replacing a key - I have googled but still am a little lost - it appears you can buy individual keys but from the USA, couldn’t see a NZ stockiest

Anyone have any experience replacing a key or can point me in the right direction?

I'd suggest picking up a new keyboard - I've replaced numerous laptop keyboards over the years with cheapies from Aliexpress

That takes a little knowledge and some confidence. If someone doesn't have experience with this kind of thing it can be opening a can of worms. How exactly is the key broken?

If you don’t have experience working on computers, replacing or fixing a laptop keyboard can be a little daunting. I think the best bet for you might be just replacing the key. This shouldn’t be too difficult. You need a few simple tools, like tweezers and a small flat blade screwdriver, to unclip the old key and clip in a new one.

A replacement key will probably have to be purchased on-line from an overseas retailer. I found a couple of sites that would probably be okay. Here is one for your model:

https://www.replacementlaptopkeys.com/elitebook-1030-g4-keyboard-keys-replacement/

In addition to model number, you also have to specify your keyboard type. If you scroll down on the page, you will see pictures of the different options for your model. From the picture you provided, I think yours is probably HC 21, but you might want to double check that.

If all this is too much, a laptop repair place should be able to do this for you, though of course that will cost more.

Good luck with it.
