I decided to head out and participate in the ham radio winex shakeout (facebook link) today using my lenovo and g90. Unfortunately the Lenovo is horrible for rfi, and blew out any chance of doing winlink. You can see a video of how bad it is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGrLDo0JEO4 I tried a few different cables with and without ferrites on them, to no avail.

This makes it completely unusable for ham radio digital modes, so I am looking for a solution. I have a pi and tried to use the hotspot on it to connect without it being hooked to the laptop (using a battery bank for the pi) but cannot get my laptop or phone to connect to it, so that was out as well.

Does anyone know a cheap rfi clean laptop that can be used for these purposes? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Cheers

That's an incredibly specific requirement. I'd suggest getting in touch with someone who's already solved the problem and just replicate their setup as closely as possible.

I know it's a bit specific, however there are plenty of geeks here that I'm hoping have dealt with similar. It's not ham specific as medical fields and other areas have to deal with the same.

Unfortunately I don't know many kiwis and most hams I talk to aren't from ZL. They normally suggest something like the Evolve III Maestro that's only $80 in the US but isn't shipped here. Chances may be slim but this is my best shot unfortunately.
