hey all
im looking into getting a touch screen laptop (convertible not slate) for my studies

Have heard good things about the Lenovo thinkpad x61/x60 but not keen on them as lenovo is IMO like dell or acer - cheap and nasty mass produced crud which breaks

Has anyone got recommendations for a brand for touchscreens (i cant afford the top-spec slate brands, plus i need convertible type). what about the HP ones?

bit lost with the googling on the topic

cheers
nathan

Not sure on budget - as havent worked out what I can afford. Planning on selling my current laptop which should get around $500-600 (Hp DV1000, 1.86Ghz M dothan, maxed out ram of 2GB with XP home license) hopefully. Got about $900 cash available and can borrow on Student Loan or overdraft if i need to. So I'd say top-end would be $3000, but would have to be pretty damn good for that. Ideal price would be 2000.

Reagrding HP - i get the impression they are going for the multitouch tech now (which means big bucks) plus they are all trendy and TBH i dont like the current trendy styles. I like simple style (like mac laptops or my DV1000)

Toshiba - not going there coz of the lame-o controlpanel addons they have, plus toshibas dont like iTunes (or so im told) or pretty much most things that arent approved by Toshiba or MS...

I know - really picky here..... any suggestions?

cheers

AMD! ARGHGHG!! DEVILSPAWN!!

just kidding. no honestly i was! please dont ban me mods(!) :P

But to be honest i know nothing about AMD's lineup - so would prefer to stick to what I know (intel) otherwise I have to do all this crazy research (yea im obsessive compulsive when it comes to knowing exactly what it is im buying lol) and i really dont wanna go down that road to wacko-land lol

Same thing with radeon - i kind of keep up with nividia cards (easier naming system lol)

Although that TX2 is a damn nice price (specially from HN), so maybe its worth finding out whats inside them.... hmm me thinks an all-nighter may be on the horizon...

Just a quick q - a 12.1 inch diagonal is small huh? Im wanting the touchscreen for note-taking in class/tutorials. So im thinking that my current screen is a 14inch widescreen and looks a good size in relation to an A4 sheet. and I find even then, sometimes this screen is too small.... and its not  touchsreen. Im just thinking in terms of being able to write on one "sheet of a4" in one go . .
