Hey,
i have a HP NX6120 notebook and unfortunately 1 week after the warranty expired the motherboard fried itself. i was looking to repair it but the cost of fixing isnt worth it so i am looking at another laptop. however my hard drive is fine and i want to (when i get a new laptop) transfer the data over from it nd use it as a secondary backup hard drive using a usb caddy but i need to know how to work out whether it is a PATA, SATA or IDE or whatever other multitude of types there are and everything ive been researching is confusing me further if anyone could help me it would be much appreciated.

PATA (parallel ATA) is the same thing as ATA. Pictures of the connector will tell you in no time, but briefly, if you look at the connector if it is 2*22 pins it is PATA. If it is a flat plate with 7? contacts either side it is SATA.

thanks guys i had a look at the connectors and from that im pretty sure its ATA but will also have a look on the partsurfer to make sure and sorry for the double post of this
