Hey folks,

I'm keen to make my next laptop a Netbook.  This would be a nice change from my Inspiron 1720.

I need to be able to log on to a domain, so I need XP Pro.

I haven't been able to ascertain if I can run XP Pro on one of these babies or not - I see they come standard with XP home.

So... who has experience?  Will it run like a dog or a leopard?

Ta.

I have Aspire One with 120 GB hard drive. It came with XP home. I changed to XP pro due to requirements for offline files however am now running Windows 7 RC on it. It ran faster with XP pro on it than XP home due to the fact that it was a clean install without all the "extras" that come with the XP home version...

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Thanks hairy1 - that sounds promising for me!

...and is Windows 7 gooder or worser?

Much gooder. It goes great. Found all the hardware first time. Aero works without tweaks and it seems faster than XP. You might need a decent sized hard drive though as it would severely limit things with the SSD models.

Hmm... what is this world coming to... Windows getting better, and less h/w intensive with age???

I can't believe you're using Aero - such a hog.

The netbook I'm looking at has a 160GB HDD anyway, so it's all good.
