I got my Acer F5000 back from repairs. Booted and it worked - for 60 seconds. They had reinstalled Windows Vista so when I clicked the activation option it worked fine - until I rebooted the laptop.

At that point it wouldn't see the HDD anymore. So I tried booting with Linux Live CD and it can't see the HDD. Thinking it could be something with the new motherboard, II removed the HDD and using an external enclosure tried is on my other laptop. It will show E: on Explorer, but Windows freezes when trying to access the drive. It won't even load Disk Management if the drive is enclosure is plugged to the USB port.

I then booted with a Linux Live CD and it shows the drive on Explorer again - but if I try mounting it I get "dbus error org.gtk.private.remotevolumemonitor.failed".

At this point I think I have a toast Intel SSD. I don't mind losing whatever is in the drive, since it's just a Windows Vista install with nothing else. I just want it to be seen on Windows. Any other ideas?

Well if you hadn;t just said it worked when you got it back on a Googleable website, you could have just called the repair centre and said it was dead and had them fix/repair it :-)

Good point - but I doubt they would fix an Intel SSD, knowing it's not an original part.

Edit: Yes but as it was working before you gave your notebook to them and not when you had it returned, it sounds as if they damaged it and they should foot the bill for replacement or repair

Like the guy above said .. you sent them a machine to repair (not for an SSD fault I take it ?) and it came back with a different fault ?  sounds to me like they might have done something bad.

How old is the SSD ?  I assume they should come with a decent warrenty ? In which case RMA it back to the people you got it from.

i think the SSD was on demo loan to mauritio from Intel... i'm sure they would want to make sure that its not an SSD fault, lest they have 'dead intel ssd' as a top google result in a few days :-)

LOL. Good point. I didn't want to resort to that though - I just wanted to know if there's anything else I could do...

Intel has just announced new versions of this drive and I am trying to get a replacement unit from the new models - interested to see if they really perform better than the previous X25M (which was pretty good).

The HP Mini I have here came with a Sandisk SSD... The Sandisk drive is at least 1/2 of the speed of the Intel drive. Of course you wouldn't expect an OEM to put a high end drive on a laptop that costs the same of individual SSD...
