With the announcement that Dell will be selling some of its products in Dick Smith stores across New Zealand,

I'm just curious, will this include their Studio XPS and Alienware products aswell?

From yesterday's NZ Herald:

Evan Williams, Dell's general manager for consumer sales and marketing in Australia and New Zealand, said Dick Smith's 70 New Zealand stores would initially stock Dell's "entry level" Inspiron range of laptops, desktops and monitors.

Over time, the range of in-store products could expand to include some of Dell's more expensive computers, such as its Studio range, he said.

At least those who buy them from DSE will be covered by the CGA when they are out of warranty not like at present. Dell doesn't want to know about you or you problems..

What do you mean by 'covered by the CGA'? All new goods sold within New Zealand are sold within the terms of the CGA.

Dell don't seem to be. They try and get out of it if they can.

If you can access the Consumer.org.nz web site , take a look at this discussion.

I think it's unfair to pick on Dell in this reguard.

I think most companies would try to honour there obligations under the law, but protect themselves when they believe that they have done so.

Not that I have any particular knowledge of this with Dell in specifically, I do know a number of retailers have been taken to the disputes tribunal over computer issues where they have felt to be in the right. But this is why you don't hear of the likes of HP or Acer being taken because they don't sell directly to consumers.

and as a matter of fact, HP are denying responsibility for some laptops at work curremtly, all different users, out of office, in office, all cracked motherboards, all only just out of warranty.

I did have a copy of a document where the disputes tribunal found against Dell and said that certain components of a laptop should last for 5 years.
