I have a 1810TZ which comes with the connection software for Vodafone but looking at the specs on the WWAN card look like it should work fine on the XT network. (Huawei 3G EM770W as far as I can tell)
So is it possible to get software to connect to the XT network?

Yeah it should be possible, you don't need the software, just put in the telecom APNs and #99 in the number field :)

Tell me how you go, I've got my Acer 1410 ordered, but haven't ordered the PCIe card or modem yet

Well I got some of the way today but still missing something and really not sure how to find out what.

I uninstalled the Vodafone software + Drivers and installed the Acer connection software for the card.

With a XT sim in the software seems to be connecting to the network showing full signal strength and displaying Telecom NZ. I created a profile pointing at internet.telecom.co.nz for the APN but it sits for a while trying to connect and then seems to time out.

Thinking I really should have put this in the Telecom forum so that someone from Telecom might see it and have a suggestion (or two). Any chance of getting this thread moved?

This is a repost of information from 'nigelferguson' which was posted on this forum several months ago, these are for the gobi module but the AT commands are standard so may work with your card

Step A ? Configure the UN2400 Module to Support correct Traffic Class, and include APN for Telecom Network

-????????? Using HyperTerminal or similar Telnet Utility Create a connection for the UN2400 Module

-????????? Determine the COM port being used by the UN2400 Module using device manager

-????????? Right Click on the ?UN2400 Module Modem? and select properties Take note of ComPort Number Mobile BroadBand

-????????? Make sure the connection manager is closed and WWAN is turned ON application

-????????? Launch HyperTerminal

-????????? Create a connection to the UN2400 Module using the following settings

-????????? Go to File->Properties->Setting Tab-> Setup, then tick the Echo typed checkbox ASCII

-????????? Select ASCII Setup

-????????? Check ?echo typed characters locally?

-????????? Type

AT

You should get ?OK? back indicating you can communicate with the module

-????????? Type

AT+cgeqreq=1,4,0,0

AT+cgdcont=1,?IP?,?internet.telecom.co.nz?

-????????? To confirm that parameters have been updated Tyoe

AT+cgeqreq?

AT+cdgcont?

Step B ? Create a Dial-Up Connection to use the UN2400 Module (process may vary by OS ? below based on Vista setup)

-????????? Select ?setup a connection or network?

-????????? Select ?set up a dial-up connection?

-????????? When prompted select the UN2400 Mobile Broadband Modem
