mea culpa, sometimes a lot of knowledge is a dangerous thing...

I recently needed to format my NEC versa e2000 laptop. To make a long story short, I no longer have the recovery partition (please don't ask, suffice to say I've learned my lesson). I've been told that it will cost up to $150.00!! to partition and reinstall the software.

This is something I could do myself, if I had the recovery files to do it with. All that came with my laptop is an 'applications installation cd' which doesn't seem to contain any recovery files.

Does anyone out there have the recovery files for this laptop that they'd be willing to share? Or know where I can download them from? I'd really appreciate it, thanks very much!

Your best bet is to just get a copy of XP and download the drivers for your model laptop from the NEC site.

I have a Packard Bell (which is just a rebranded NEC) and I dont think there are disks that do what you are looking for, that is why they store everything on a partition. it sux!

The CD's just hold any extra software they comes with the PC and not the OS.

try looking in the bios. I think you have to switch it on (depending on type of processor)

hi again, i've checked the bios (phoenix bios v 379B0800) and i'm missing the 'power' menu option. i googled phoenix bios and have all the menu options except that one. i have the most up-to-date bios for my laptop, i even flashed it again hoping that it would change, but no go. i've got all the windows updates. so i can't turn it on in the bios unless i can get that power menu item there, and frankly, i'm at a loss as to what is wrong.
i've formatted and installed xp twice.
anyone have any ideas? thanks.

Until you install the chipset and other relevant drivers you won't be able to hibernate. This includes installing the correct video driver rather than the default 'Standard VGA' driver.
