i need help in buying my son a laptop, i have never owned or used a laptop, so i have no idea whats a good brand etc, i have seen a acer aspire 5737z with a dual core intel processor 2.0, 4 gig ddr3 ram with a Nvidia 9400m 256mb graphic card. It has Vista home premium installed and a 15.6 screen , the shop is getting rid of it for just under a $1000, it is brand new . is acer an ok brand and is that good value.   Thankyou

Common sense is not as common as you think.

I would look for an Asus or Toshiba first.
Also wouldn't buy anything with Vista on it, windows 7 is the way to go.

Is Acer a good brand? No. If you do buy it, please get an extended warranty. Is that value for money? While it's still working, yes.
