There must be a glitch so be quick!

Go to dell.co.nz and customize a core i5 Studio 15. Upgrade to i7 for ... $60!

I went for the XPS so no i did not take advantage ...

But it's still a Dell....

(maybe they're finally taking that into account?)

every brand has horror stories - some models more so than others - not sure about this studio thing but bought one for my bro and it's super light (2.4kg) and super cool despite the i7 which suggests something was built right

I ordered one of these yesterday and now see that for the same price I could have a blu-ray rive included. What do you think my chances are of changing the order?

dont worry keep trying - they;re hard to get but once you get them they're pretty helpful in my experience ... make a fuss or speak to supervisor or something but i dont want to get your hopes up too high on the other hand ....

Damn that's tempting, looking at the Alienwares at the moment, but for that price, it might just sway me away!!!

FWIW my current work laptop is a Dell Studio 1535, and it is the most unreliable and frustrating laptop I've owned... by quite a significant margin. Its just over two years old, and has had 3 motherboard replacements (although that was due to Dell tech support incompetence more than anything; see below), a HDD replacement, two trackpad replacements, and one keyboard replacement (which admittedly was done as a courtesy during the last trackpad replacement).

I work with an external monitor connected to the laptop, and from day one I was getting daily BSODs on the laptop. After numerous tech support calls, motherboard replacements, sending the laptop away to Dell for thorough offsite testing, and even a brand new replacement laptop from the next iteration of the Studio series (which I sent back, due to it being a hardware "downgrade" in many ways), I discovered the BSOD problem was due to an incompatibility with the ATI graphics chip and Vistas Aero feature. Once I disabled Aero, the BSODs stopped. Thankfully this problem seems to be fixed with Windows 7, and I have once again enabled Aero without incident.

It also has what I consider to be a serious design flaw, where I can't screw in my external monitors connector into the laptop, so it just sits there loosely. As a result, this connection comes loose a few times a day, resulting in partial or full signal loss to the monitor.
