I have a Compaq NX7010 laptop.http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/hp-compaq-business-nx7010/4507-3121_7-30889530.html?tag=mncolBtm;rnavI want to upgrade the RAM. It currently says 512mb in the properties. I opened the RAM cover and there is one slot only, and it is empty?? Would this model have onboard RAM or is there another slot somewhere?

We use to service these at work.

From memory thats the same chassis as a number of home presario models.

The other RAM slot is under the keyboard. Designed so you can upgrade yourself into the free slot without too much technical knowledge.

98% sure but I can't be 100%, I don't think that has the board with fixed onboard modules. They stopped that quite some time ago.

Interestingly, it says they are factory with 2x256 modules. Hmm.

From one of our RAM resellers...

Installation Notes
Machine may ship with 256MB or 512MB standard memory, 40GB or 60GB (9.5mm)Removable Hard Drive and has 1 Type II PC card slot.

Cheers mate.

so do you reckon its safe to assume the slot under the keyboard has a 512 stick? I didn't even notice an access panel to that spot but i'll look again.

Either way, It sounds like me chucking another 512mb stick in the free slot will give me 1gb total, and a marked improvement hopefully cause she runs like a dog at present.

Cheers mate.

Yes indeedy.

From memory there will be 2 screws, 1 each side at the rear of the LCD hinges, this lets you pop the top panel off with the power button etc on it.

Then 4-5 screws (1 different) holding the top of the keyboard down.

f Iyou ever feel the need.
