Hey guys,

I was planning on getting a macbook soon(this week or next) and was wanting the 15' i7 version, but came across this

http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-15-Macbook-Pro-i7-2-6-500-8GB-antiglare-hi-res-/120614263596?pt=Apple_Laptops&hash=item1c152b9b2c#ht_908wt_1137

the trader seems fairly legit, and it works out at around 3700+shipping. The same system from NZ local apple store would cost 5000'ish. So i'm asking for your opinion on this, any sort of input would be most appreciated, cheers.

Remember to add 12.5% GST when it hits the customs...

At the end you might be saving less than you would gain by buying local with warranty and CGA coverage.

I agree, for a hundred of dollars more (after you add on the tax), you could save yourself a lot of hassles if you face any warranty issues, not to mention damage during the transit!

I was looking at doing the same thing, going the eBay route.

But in the end, I ultimately decided on Toshcomputers.

I am the first to admit that I'm probably THE most painful customer you'll ever have. I want things done my way, and I want them done yesterday.
Jens is fantastic at his customer service, and I had nothing but a fantastic buying experience with this company. They will be the only place I go to from now on because of that, and they offer very decent prices, so I suggest you take a nosy over at their website :)

Hi there,

I have been looking at macbook pro's and admit I have only good experiences with Tosh computers and Jens.
That said, I came across a site www.hope-mall.com with very good prices.  You may want to check it out.
It says it allows the use of PayPal which may provide the same security that ebay provides with that service
(I think ebay owns PayPal if i'm not mistaken).  have you or has anyone els had any dealings with Hope-mall?

Thanks to everyone for their input, much appreciated.

I've heard good things about tosh before, but never really looked into. Now that I have, and I was especially interested in this

http://www.toshnewzealand.com/product_info.php?cPath=17&products_id=439

but am wondering how it would be better to purchase from there than Apple Store? If I customize it with the same specs, it comes to $4471 on the Apple Store..

Hi James,

Toshcomputers also do GST free orders. It does add 1 day extra to the delivery time plus also an extra fee for delivery charges. From memory it gets shipped out from Hawaii, which is where the extra fee comes in.

Email Jens and ask him about a GST free order, and he'll sort you out.  :)
