Hey all

The missus would like a laptop/notebook/netbook so she can play on Facebook/FrontierVille/CafeWorld in the lounge. Which suits me down to the ground as it will free up the PC for me to play Mass Effect 2 do work stuff.

With this in mind, and considering the fact we will have to stop paying the kids their pocket money for 15 months to pay for it, is a netbook going to be okay for her?

And if so, would any (or all) of the following do the trick?

I've got a Mini-210 and while it's great for laying in bed browsing and stuff, flash games, youtube vids etc are a pain in the a...
You have to keep scrolling up and down to see the bottom of anything that's designed for a normal PC.

I DO love the thing and was tempted to buy another but the mrs decided it was no good for her facebook stuff, so we didn't.
Resize your screen resolution on your PC to 800x600 and open firefox and see if you can play any of those games... then take a couple of lines away

I have a netbook with 1368x768 res and wouldn't go less. Even on a 10" screen, it's easy viewing. Maybe if you have older eyes/need glasses it wouldn't be ideal.

I both have the emachine (aka Acer) and the Asus 1001P that you mention here at the moment.

The Asus has a better quality screen and I like the keyboard better than the emachine, I reckon the Asus is worth the extra $50 over the emachine.

I haven't tried a hp netbook recently but they usually have an even better keyboard but the price may not be justified.

I suggest you take the missues out try them out in person and get a feel for the smallness of the keyboard and screen size.

The Asus 1001P is 1024x600, I find if I use Firefox or Chrome as the browser in fullscreen mode with an ad blocking addon it's ok for general web and email.

Turns out it's not required - just been told I'm getting a laptop from work (a Lenovo T410) which should do the trick, just (lol).

Just in case anyone is reading this thread considering buying a netbook. I personally use my netbook for all my uni work now. This includes running programs like maple and matlab and I have never experienced any issues.

I did a lot of research before I bought it and considered this to be one of the best.

Has a great feature that you can charge usb devices when the computer is off!
