I've noticed something on my HP dv6 laptop for a while: when I unplug the power cable the CPU utilisation goes to 100% and stays there. I can't pinpoint any application using this much CPU.

Everything goes very slow, and sometimes plugging the power cord back brings CPU utilisation down again.

Any ideas?

This Mark Russinovich post might be helpful when tracking it down. Trying a different battery might be interesting if you have one around.

Yes, I found that running on a Power Management set that had an On Battery set lower than 75% would cause this. I had since changed that set to 75% and it runs ok now.

Obviously Power Management causing CPU to slow down and Windows 7 not liking it...
